Good MORNIN' from TEXAS!! I'm a stay-at-home mom who wears a lot of hats, wife, mother, home school teacher, feeder of the animals, cook, maid, gardener, washer woman, bill payer, etc. (can't remember all the titles! LOL!) We've lived on this "farm" for almost 14 years after having lived in a city for 20 years ( and I grew up in the country and disliked living that close to other people. You can't holler without the neighbors thinking something is wrong!) We have 20 something hens that are older (4+ yrs, White Rocks, Barred Rocks, Black Austrolorps, Buff Orpingtons, red/gold sexlinks,), and 45 Black Austrolorp pullets chicks that are about 4 wks old, 2 guinea roosters, 6 cows, 6 calves, 1 bull, 3 horses, 1 dog and 5cats and 4 kittens.

I am raising the chicks on organic/non-gmo feed as I want really healthy hens and eggs. My older chickens, unfortunately, were not raised that way. I am changing their feed to organic/non-gmo as well. Since my hens are older, I'm not getting as many eggs as when they were younger. (Not sure when they stop laying or if they do.)

I look forward to learning even MORE about chickens via this forum/website. I have gotten lots of info from here in the past. Thanks for being here for those who want tolearn more about chickens and have their own!

Sounds like you are raising them right on the Non GMO Organic feeds! I recently started my birds on some Non GMO Organic layer feed. They dive into it like they died and went to chicken feed heaven!!

Good luck with all your projects and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have a really busy farm! Nice link with a chart to average egg production in hens by age http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps029 generally they expect a 5 year old hen to lay about half of what she did at a year.
