Hi I'm Julia,

I just got my first 4 chickens in March. They are sextonsI got them as day olds and just got my first egg yesterday. I am so excited. I do talk to a couple of local farmers for advise, but I thought this forum would be a great help too.

I am planning to get more, most likely 3-4 each year. I'm thinking maybe a white breed next.

So please feel free to offer this newby direction and advise.

Thanks

Hi, Julia, welcome to BYC, and congratulations on your first egg.

Welcome to BYC, Julia. Glad you decided to join our flock. Congratulations on getting that first egg. By "sextons," I assume you are talking about the pullets in your avatar. Those are Red Sex Links and they are laying machines. You will gets loads more large, brown eggs from them. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Red Sex Link pullets.

SexLinks - you are correct that is what my girls are.

Getting my first egg was so exciting, however when I checked yesterday and this morning...no eggs :( . I guess it'll take a little time for laying on a regular basis. I will wait patiently for all 4 of my girls to lay eggs.

I ate the first egg yesterday for breakfast, and it was gloriously delicious...I can't wait for more!

Yes they are sexlinks thanks for correcting me. I always say it wrong.

I love my girls and the first egg was delicious. I ate it for breakfast yesterday morning.

So far no more eggs :(. I guess it'll take a little time until they are all laying on a regular basis.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I look forward to learning lots on this forum.
