I am Ajeet from Chennai ,Tamilnadu ,India. I am new to farming, and we have a farm in kaveripakkam some 106kms from my home. Here we mainly have a Aseel cross chickens only. They are very ferocious, will always pick the feathers of other chickens and many a times peck them to death which is very sad. Then we got some kadaknath (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadaknath) chickens, these are docile and I usually sell the eggs, because the meat is not preferred here by the locals. Since everyone here prefers a chicken that looks like the red junglefowl (Gallus Gallus) as meat bird(which they call as original country chicken), and it is banned by the Indian government to raise red junglefowl in a farm, I am looking for any chicken that resembles the red junglefowl.
The locals here prefer the bird to have the following characteristics:
1. single comb
2. Appearance to be that of the red junglefowl
3. Yellow skin colour
4. brown colour egg
So far only welsummer chickens fit the characteristics but the eggs are dark brown and speckled. If anyone knows any other breed that matches the characteristic please let me know in the comments below. Also if anyone is selling welsummer adult or chicks in India or preferably in Tamilnadu please contact me.
