I am a yearliing coop owner. Starting at age 50 I had my son build me a large 8'x16' coop with a 8'x16'overhange fenced in. Nesting inside are my four isa browns who are a year old, and my seven black stars who are now about 16 weeks old. My girls are pets. They are picked up and held daily. Loved and hugged. And they like it! We Live on five acres and share the land with foxes, coyotes and and other critters. The coop is safe but I have to really watch out for the girls when there free ranging. I have two great danes that are chicken hearders. There sure of that. They make sure all the chickens are in the house every night in the summer time for me. My coop is insulated, and has a solar gable fan and solar lighting. It is located to far away from the house for me to run electricity. In the winter, I have to carry fresh water daily every morning, sometimes afternoons too, out to the coop. I love my girls. They all come running to me wanting to be held first, and the eggs are of course the most rewarding. I take them for walks, and they love to follow the lawn mower. I am an artist and am trying to come up with a cartoon srtip about them. I will. I have jogged down so many funny stories that when I'm ready, I'll have a whole book! I also do watercolors and have painted a few chickens. These have always sold I noticed and won a few ribbons! We chicken lovers are many I am finding out and are growing every day! Mabee I make some bumperstickers for us to read "be kind to our chickens"
