Hello I'm OleCoyote:
I'm here to learn from experienced people to be able to raise the healthiest and happiest flock of birds that I possibly can...
I don't have any birds at this time so I'll be starting from scratch, I have a large area where I'm looking to put my new future flock but I need to learn as much as possible before I start, I use to work on a farm that had chickens but they were free range and had no coop and there was poop everywhere, I don't want this and the area I live now has a lot of predators such as snakes, raccoons, opossum, fox, cougars, hawks, owls and eagles...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Hi and welcome to BYC

Here’s a good link where you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You'll need a Fort Knox of a coop and run to keep the predators away. Too many bad ones to chance free ranging. I'd suggest 1/4" hardware cloth around the bottom 18" of your run to keep out snakes. You'll find lots more advice on the predator threads.
