Hello im new to owning and raising chickens

I'm just learning how to handle and raise chickens I have alot of questions I don't want to lose them to something I can help or even prevent so I found this BYC on social media and have decided to give it a go lol I hope I can be a better chicken mom for my lil flock I have 21 chickens 5 are roosters and the other 16 are hens I have 3 that are laying eggs and are separated from the others cause the 3 are quite mean when put with any of my others so any advise given would be much appreciated and most grateful thank you

That's a lot of roosters for 16 hens. You might rehome one of your boys or keep 2 of them in separate quarters together. Make sure your flock has enough personal space, cramped birds will turn on each other. So 10 Sq feet per bird in their enclosure. And if a hen or two is still mean, you may need to separate them out for a while, although many times you can't change a hens personality.

My advice would be to rehome all but one of the boys and replaced that chicken wire with 1/2" hardware cloth before something gets in there and destroys your flock. I would also add some dry organic matter to the run so they have something to scratch around in as well as as much clutter as you can manage. Things like stumps, branches, old wooden stools or chairs, pallets leaning up against the walls. You get the picture.
 
Welcome. First things first...for a chicken momma that doesn't want to lose chickens...replace that chicken wire with 1/2 inch hardware cloth, and add an apron - it is when you attach the hardware cloth at the bottom and then run it on the ground 18-24 inches and cover it with stone or dirt. Basically covering the perimeter to protect the chickens from digging predators. Next, they need space, lots of secure space in their coop and run. When I look at your pictures, I think they are being mean because they do not have space. I have 3 hens that are disabled and sleep in the house. I have 14 hens that are in an 18x10 coop. 16 of the hens have a 60x60 foot run space that has hardware cloth walls and an apron and a netted ceiling (for aerials) when we are home which one of us is always because we have an end of life dog we are caring for. 20x20 of this space is hard covered. The roosters have a 12x16 foot space and their coop is above their run. About the roosters, I would put them all in a bachelor pad. I have 3- in a bachelor pad and they do very well, I know they are happy, and I enjoy them so much. If you want more information on this...just PM me.
