Hello, I'm New to This.....

That cabin is absolutely beautiful! BYC is the perfect place to learn everything about chickens! We are so glad to have you here! We hope you enjoy being a part of our flock! Let me know what questions you have and I would be eggstatic (hehe chickens puns!) to answer! Best wishes! :welcome

G’Day from down under Lynn :frow Welcome!

I love your cabin! So jealous right now!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! That cabin is absolutely beautiful! Alaska is pretty far north so I'm not sure exactly what breeds would do well up there. Perhaps @BantyChooks could give some insight? I'm going to guess though that you'd want chickens with smaller combs and more dual purpose type breeds. As for geese, they're very easy to raise. They love to forage and eat grass and usualy just share some of the chicken food. This will be my first winter with them though so I can only offer summer time info so far. I do know that the ducks don't mind the snow at all so maybe the geese won't either lol. These are my boys, Sunshine and Lollipop :)

Welcome to BYC! I'd recommend Chanteclers above all others. Their next to nonexistent headgear means winter trimming on roosters doesn't happen. They're good for eggs, meat, and they're intelligent and regal birds too.

Fayrehale farms has white chanteclers and ships to Alaska, I think.
