Hello, Im New. We are starting our very first flock.

Once the chicks are old enough to be outside in coop/run they do not need food where they sleep,(if that's what your asking). They will be fine with the food and water just in the run. Although depending on the temperatures some will put water in the roost box just in case.

Welcome to BYC!

Chickens don't drink or eat at night, so you do not need to keep the food and water over night. If they are out in the run all day, then it is not necessary to leave food or water in the coop. They will not go looking far for water and you don't want them to get dehydrated. So where ever they are hanging out, this is where the goods need to be.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

I keep feed and water in the coop and the run. The consumption of the feed and water in the coop is very minimal. I just keep it there in case they are late getting out or if a bullied bird wants to grab a bite or a drink away from the main flock. As stated above, it certainly doesn't seem necessary when they can get out. I think of it as a chicken luxury.

Same here. I keep the food and water in the run, and lock the coop every night. I let the chooks out in the morning and feed them their breakfast at the same time.

Glad you joined us!

Thank you so much. I was stessing a little about trying to keep food and water both in the coop and inthe run. We successfully got the chicks using water nipples yesterday. I will take small success, any day.
