Hello, I'm not new to BYC but haven't had chickens for awhile. We inherited 2 adult chickens and 1 mean roo. Then this spring got another 6 babies.

Hello, and welcome back to activity at BYC.

We inherited 2 adult chickens and 1 mean roo when we moved to a small town in South Central Utah to my husband's family home which we recently bought. Then this spring we got another 6 babies. 1 being another rooster. We have 4 Rhoad Island Reds and 2 Brahmas. The old ladies keep the new ladies pretty much inside the coop. They don't venture outside much by themselves. We have had chickens a few times in the past but haven't had any for the last 5 or 6 years. My husband turned an old shed into a good sized coop and outside area that gives them room to wander around.
Just wanted to reconnect with BYC and see what 's going on in everyone's chicken lives. Have a wonderful day!!

Welcome to the coop! I look at the articles and use the forums tab for specific questions I have. You can get lost for hours!
If he is mean enough to go after a human, then rehome (full transparency to new owners) him. Or have a nice big pot of roo stew.

Welcome. If your rooster is mean, he is scared of something. If you want to work with him to find out what he is scared of - you will have a friend for life. I love roosters.

We recently cull and butchered one of our roosters. Not because he was mean, but we had too many roosters in our small flock.
