Things are a bit different here in Catalonia. For example, you just can't get many of the drugs mentioned; the vet I use, lovely though she is, thinks I'm mad to take a chicken to a vet. A sick chicken gets killed here. Chickens are product basically, or they are completely free range and wander around the farm yards and sleep in the trees at night.
In the seven years I've been here,the average lifespan of the chickens is just over one year, given I started off with French Marana (unbooted and blue/black) which have on average as free range fowl a lifespan of 10 years, and Bantams of unknown origin with and average free range life span of 12 years
