I obtained some nice property this last year and have started what I like to refer as my Lil Farm. Started a nice sized garden, growing everything from watermelon to corn. Decided to start out with a couple of fairly mature laying hens (6 mos to a year) to get me going.

My only concern right now is Indiana's unpredictable weather....will it be hot, will it be cold? Any suggestions on proper housing/watering?

Thanks!

Tracy

Hi :welcome Tracy

Glad you could join us here! Congrats on getting your lil farm started :clap As for your weather, chickens cope well with the cold so as long as you have a dry well ventilated coop hey should be fine. Plenty of shade and plenty of fresh water for when it's hot. You might like to pop by your state thread for other members in your area who can offer more advice on weather. State threads can be found here ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us and congrats on your farm. You could check out the "feeding and watering your flock" forum for ideas on how to prevent drinking water from freezing etc, in addition to the link given by Y/Coop.

Best wishes
