Hello! I've started homesteadin' in Denver!

Welcome to BYC, Caitlin! Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on TwoCrows' advice for keeping the flies down. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What breeds do you have?

I also live in Colorado and I have noticed the flies have been particularly bad this year....I imagine its from all the rain we've had. So far, my 13 are still in the brooder, but when I take them out in the yard for some "play time", I have noticed all the flies. I imagine it will be worse when they are in their run. The sand and the mint sound like great ideas!

Hi All,

Wanted to get some advice on when to put a heating source in.. It's going to get down to 30 tonight and has been raining for 24 hours so I'm sure the ladies are getting chilly...

One: Do I just get the water heater so that water doesn't freeze?
Two: OR do I get both the water heater and heat lamp? I've heard the heat lamp is over kill and sometimes might hurt them so any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
