Hi,
I am so glad I found you all!!. I am ready to start off with 4 or so baby/ young hens. I have been looking at hatcheries online and I cant seem to find anyone that will ship a small number. Should I just get them from a local feed store? Any suggestions would be a great help to me!I am right on the AL/TN stateline about 25 miles north of Huntsville.

Have you looked at www.ideal-poultry.com ? They will ship small orders but you have to spend $20. When I ordered my cochins, it worked out to be 5 or 6 chicks. I ended up with 12 roosters shipped for warmth, but if you buy insurance on them (it doesn't cost much) they will leave out the extras. With the current weather, warmth shouldn't be a problem (mine were shipped in April.)

It may work out cheaper to go with your local feed store, but you won't have the variety you can get from a hatchery.
