Hello everyone at byc! I just found your site about 2 weeks ago and I can't thank this site and you guys enough. I had no clue where to start, what I need, coop or even breeds until 2 weeks ago. There is so much information here. Without this site, I don't know if I would've had the courage to go through with actually purchasing a coop and hens.
So thanks the the information and support on this site, we went ahead and did it! We now have an eglu cube with 3 hens (one for each of my kids) that we bought on craigslist: Lucy (white silkie, Lancer - I think its an Australorp, and Penny- mix americuna, I think). The seller inherited from her neighbor a month ago and couldn't handle the smell and maintenance so sold it it us. So she herself doesn't know what breeds these chickens are, I just guessed it based on the breeds 101. For sure the silkie is a silkie though.
We read somewhere here about sand runs so thats what we did inside our run and we scoop up their poop with kitty litter scoop. We do mix in some DE in the sand as well. Its really hot here in California this time of the year. Hope they'll be okay!
Just wanted to thanks this site and everyone on it
