I suppose I should make my introductions, you can call me Sphinx, that's fine
My fiancé and I recently adopted a flock of 5 grown hens (last August)! It was very sudden, the previous owner was a friend of ours who was tired of keeping them, and wanted to reclaim his yard (it was pretty barren). So we scooped them up and planted them at our new house. It's been over a year now since we've lived here together, we are both born and raised in the Seattle area.
We've really been learning about chickens on the fly. Despite our intentions to eventually get some, it wasn't until we had them that we did most of the initial research. I think we've done ok by them for the most part but we're still learning.
I guess this is a good place to share pics of our girls.
This is Sweet-Pea, an easter egger(I'm not sure if she classifies as an amerucana or not). Imagine the cliche of someone nicknamed tiny and you might imagine where she got her name. She was broody when we moved them to their new home, she continues to be moody and distant, and doesn't tolerate being handled very well, but we love her and she's very cute~
Here is Felix! My fiancé has had it in his head to name our pets after famous tyrants so there is that. She's a Plymouth Rock, very sweet to people, follows you around like a puppy and is very vocal. She is probably usually on the bottom of the pecking order, but she's my favorite
Cornelia, also named after a tyrant (Cornelius). I'm still not sure what breed she is, her plumage is very beautiful though. She's usually on the top of the pecking order and is a huge bully to the other chickens, but very aloof most of the time. The fiancé is under the impression she could be deaf, not sure how much I believe that?
Our Buff Orpington, Big-Mama, for lack of a better name I suppose. I have yet to find any outstanding personality traits with her... If I had to describe her in one word though it would easily be "bumbley."
And lastly we have Blitz, the super flighty leghorn! I actually really love her despite her jitters, she can be really sweet in her own way. She has 2 different colored eyes(which I read could be a bad sign but she sees perfectly well out of both), also broken toe... I am unsure when that happened but she seems to move fine with it. She's really a champion layer; clean, beautiful, white eggs every day, even in winter.
