(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Technically, they are my parents' chickens. They started raising them about a year and a half ago, so we're all still pretty new to the whole thing. I lend a hand whenever I can. I myself take care of three muscovy ducks (have raised 2 of them for about 5 months, but bought a new one recently)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
11 chickens and a guinea hen
(3) What breeds do you have?
Four new hampshire reds, six plymouth rocks, and a rhode island red rooster
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Reconnection with nature and the sheer entertainment value of birds.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Oil painting and writing.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I've got three cats: Horace (the chubby mouser), Archimedes (the emotionally vulnerable), and Ninja (the aloof shadow who thinks she owns the entire acreage.) Refereeing everyone is Sergius, a saintly pyrenees–mutt who is gentle to every living thing except stray dogs and coyotes that wander too clowe. I work at an art gallery in Cleburne Texas and do paintings on commission, but this is not the time or place to hawk my work.
