I have a question - I have chicken but I have lost 8 out of my 10 to Mericks disease - and it looks like I will lose the other two as well - so my question is how do I clean my chicken coop so when I get more chickens they do not get this disease? How long should I wait before getting more chickens????

Hello Anita and welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry you have lost birds to Mareks disease. It is a horrible disease that will wipe out entire flocks. Mareks is everywhere all across the globe. So it is not easy to remove it from your grounds completely. You might ask this question in our emergency section for answers from those that have had to remove it. And I do suggest you get birds that have been vaccinated for Mareks. The vaccine doesn't prevent Mareks, but it usually gets them through it without dying.

Good luck Anita. I know how hard this must be for you and I hope you can somehow get your grounds clean enough to bring in new birds.

Nice to meet you Anita. Put Marek's threads, in the search box, you can read all about it. The lady that started the "Derpella, the weird salmon faverolles" thread has written an excellent thread about Mareks and she did everything she could think of to safeguard her flock, etc.
