Hello my name is david

Welcome to BYC, David. I'm glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about ducks, although I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Definitely post on our duck link that roostersandhens left with you and take advantage of our duck experts there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your duck laying again.

I don't know much about ducks but, you can't make a chicken go broody, it is a hormonal thing. Maybe your mallard hen isn't feeling that way. Do you have a drake for her? If not, the eggs would be infertile and not hatch anyway.

If she does have fertile eggs, you could try hatching them yourself with an incubator.

Welcome, glad you joined us.

Hi, dave1212ish, some ducks take a while to figure out the whole hatching process. Since this is her first year, she may not go broody just yet. Also, the days are still fairly short, and she may know to wait till spring.

Sometimes something will discourage a duck from the nest. It may be too close to a perceived threat, or something may have happened to scare her, or she may sense trouble. Or, she may have just changed her mind.

Welcome!
