Hello; my member name is Fran I Am

I am excited to be a member of BackYard Chickens.com! I am already learning lots from everyone and am appreciative of the website. Being new at what began as four baby Easter chicks for my grand daughter and is now grown into a 19 hen and 2 roosters everyday is a holiday for ganny! My husband and I pulled together a transformation shed, dog pen, and self built run that is extra sufficient; however, I would love a more of something appealing to the eyes. I will send pictures later this week but am substitute teaching this week. So glad to be a member!

Welcome to BYC, Fran I Am. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'll look forward to seeing your pics. :o) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Nice to meet you Fran, welcome to Backyard chickens. Very nice set up for your flock. I would just recommend you get 1/2" hardware cloth and run it from ground to about 18" high on the side of the chain link to prevent raccoons and other preds from snagging chicken body parts and chewing them off. Raccoons are among the worst of the predators.

They are very smart, have opposable thumbs and can open any latch you can. They can dig, climb, and bite their way through wood etc. If they don't kill chickens outright, they will have horrendous wounds.

Have you buried a wire around the base of your run to keep diggers out?
