Hello there BackYard Chickens community! I first joined backyard chickens at around 12 or 13 years old when I was raising chickens for 4-H. My 4-H club didn't have a chicken group so a friend and I sort of started our own -- we found an old "How to Show Chickens" pamphlet from the 70s at the county library and were experts in showmanship in no time. As y'all know, though, raising chickens takes a village and I received so much help from this forum back then.
Fast forward 18 years and while my parents still keep chickens, I live in the city now (
). BUT, fear not, we just acquired 6 chicks for our little Portland homestead and I could not be more excited to be back in the game! I find it unlikely that I will be showing chickens anytime soon 
, but I'm looking forward to having some feathery egg-laying companions running about. I received 3 RIR bantams and 3 Buff Brahma bantams from Cackle Hatchery about 2 weeks ago and so far so good, but I'm sure there is plenty I forgot and there is always more to learn -- I'm excited to be back and looking forward to chatting with y'all!
