My name is Tonya and I am in upstate NY near the PA border in Apalachin. I'll answer the "starter questions" below.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens. My first batch arrived on May 2 this spring.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 11 chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a salmon Faverolles cockerel (Fabio); and the pullets I ordered:a speckled Sussex (Sissy), a barred rock (Barbara), 2 EE (Bunny and Amelia), an Australorp (Astrid), a Columbian Wyandotte (Wynonna), a RIR (Rhoda), two Delawares (Dolly & Dixie... oops! DEXTER!) and my "meal maker" Olivia. I have no idea what she is!
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
When researching chicken husbandry, BYC came up over and over again and was quickly bookmarked as a valuable resource.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Home renovations (I've flipped 5 houses... 6 if you include mine), hiking, dogs, gardening, reading, exercising.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married to Dave for all intents and purposes, just never did anything official (and don't intend to). Have my 5th Doberman, a 7 yr old 90 lb. blue male named Ben, an 11.5 yr old female min pin named Fuji, a 10 yr old male rat terrier named Skittles. I work part time as a chemical engineer in Printed Circuit Board manufacturing at the site of the birthplace of IBM in Endicott, NY.
I'm something of a health nut which is what ultimately lead me to get chickens. I purchase whole grains, peas, flaxseed, BOSS, poultry nutri-balancer and fishmeal and make and ferment my own chicken feed and free-range my little chicken horde to make sure we have the healthiest, happiest birds possible for the healthiest eggs possible!
So that's me!
