Heya, I'm new to owning chickens and decided to join this forum.

I've owned some ducks in the past but not for very long, and not that many.

I have 8 chicks, mixed with australorps, plymouth rocks, and rhode island reds. They're all female and living pretty happy and healthy for now.

Today was their first day eating bugs, like ants and mealworms. They're about 4 days old now.

G'Day from down under Loenin :frow Welcome and Congratulations! :clap

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

I'm sorry but a bit confused about intro. Do you mean you have 4 day old chicks in with your flock of adult birds? Young baby chicks should be in a brooder until they are of good enough size to gradually introduce to the flock & outdoors.

No, these are my *first* chickens. They are currently in the bathroom.. (there's a spot near the sink that is perfect for holding birds) doesn't sound the best but we did raise ducklings there a few years ago. They have a lamp, bedding, food and water and a shady place to go if they get too hot.
Their coop for when they grow older is pretty much totally finished, though it does need a few finishing touches.
