Just got 4 Amerucanas to start. They are so cute. Hoping they will make a good dual purpose bird, that's what they told me when I bought them. But after reading here it seems the Brahma would have been a better choice

Welcome! I think you will enjoy them. You can always get a couple of other chicks later on when you're ready to add more. We had 4 older hens on our first go round and this time we got nine babies to raise up. It's amazing how fast they grow.

Greetings from College Station, Texas. I love Ameraucanas (or Easter Eggers). They're great layers of good sized bluish-greenish eggs, and they're smart, friendly, curious, and sociable. They make terrific low-maintenance pets, who are fun to watch and care for, and who show their appreciation of your attentions by leaving you an egg almost every day. They're pretty light weight and probably not very meaty, but I'm a vegetarian so have no problem with that. Good luck with your flock.
 
Hi from tx. I have read that amerucanas are meat birds. I have mine just for eggs and breeding. I also heard that barred rocks can be used as meat too. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for being so welcoming. I can't wait to soak up everyone's knowledge! I think when I add more I'll go for a bigger breed and do more research. So far the babies are all thriving!
