Hi I've joined because every time I have a question Backyard chickens comes up and thought it be a good idea to just become a member and join in all the fun! I have 4 ducks, all different breeds but treat each other like sibling which is super cute. They can't be without each other. I'm currently in the process of building them their pen which I'm hearing from people it's more like a palace. I don't care I want them to have room! They also have this cool 300 gallon stock tank which they have recently tried out completely full and I love to watch them submerge completely under and swim! this is so awesome! There is also a coop in there for them for them to sleep in. Can't wait for more tips on taking care of my little ducks!

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. It sounds like you have a bunch of lucky ducks - good for you! The Duck forum is the obvious place to hang out - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks but there's lots of threads on all sorts of subjects that may also take your fancy.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

I have to ask, how do you clean the water in a stock tank after the ducks use it as their toilet? 300 gals. of water would be a lot to change or freshen up (?)

It has a drain at the bottom where we placed a pvc pipe and a valve. It's pretty new to us but the plan is to keep some barley grass and another stock tank cleaner in it. Drain it completely maybe once a month but during the month reuse some of the water by opening the valve and then refilling it back up depending how much we use. Right now it has been sitting for a few days and I can still see the bottoms even if they've played it in for a few days. Not too bad. I think the bigger the better dispersion.

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your ducks, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
