Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself.
I am not a chicken owner yet.
We just bought our place a few months ago and have a plan for a coop, run and yard already forming.
I have wanted to have chickens for a while and now I can. I say I, cause my hubby says its all me. Chickens and garden are all me. I'm sure the kids will be excited about the chickens. My 4 yr old really likes looking at pics of chicks.

So when its not a million degrees outside I will get to work turning part of our unused shed into a coop and get some girls.
I plan on getting 6 hens no rooster.
Still looking into breeds.

Right now I am mama to two children 4 and 2, one new stray mut dog, and an old calico cat(that I don't see very much anymore cause of the dog).

I also plan on getting some milking goats, sometime in the next 5 years.

You will love having chickens, & this site has WEALTH of knowledge!

Let us know what breed you settle on. Do you plan just to have them as pets & for the eggs?

I love how I can just walk outside & collect fresh eggs everyday.

I would love to have goats, but DH says NO....he says they will jump on his truck & dent it.

I plan on the chickens for eggs, but would like them to be kind of pets as well.
They will need to be well natured, being around the kids(my helpers) and all.

Thinking stars,RIR, rocks?,australorp,easter eggers. Can't decide on wether to get different kinds or all one kind.
