While most of you are enjoying the beginning of spring. I still have two feet of snow. I would love to start a very small flock of chickens. So I'm looking for lots of direction. To build or not to build (buy a ready made coop). Do I need insulation? We have horrid little creatures, that I know would love my chickens, like ermine (saw one stealing my peanuts, I feed my birds and probably eating my winter birds), skunks, weasels, and soooo many squirrels, so how much extra protection do I need? What chickens are the best? I'd love to stick to heritage breeds. I love your FB page! I think I'll enjoy being here! Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

! Pleased you joined our flock! If I had the predators that you have I would build it myself. That's not a knock on pre-fabs but I would feel better about building it my way - and knowing that it was predator proof! Good luck to and have fun!!
