Hey there I’m new to lake Charles Louisiana and this forum. We have 3 acres of land so we got some chickens and built a coop. I’ve wanted them for years.
I’m 29 living with family and we have the coop so that all the family out here can have nice healthy orange yolked eggs.
So far the pullers haven’t started laying yet any day now I’ve read for the golden comets. They’re a little spicy temperament wise but the roosters are very friendly and love to be petted and don’t pick on the hens at all or fight each other.
So far my runs about 40ft by 10 ft and the coop itself is about 12ftx6ftx6ft.
I’ve got
1 frost cream legbar hen 16 weeks
2 frost cream legbar Roos 16 weeks
4 gold comet hens 16 weeks
The younger flock I’m trying to integrate
3 Easter egger hens 12 weeks?
4 olive egger hens. 12 weeks
Sadly 2 of the younger members met their fate to a horned owl out here but since then we have taken measures for safety
I know the outside looks a little rough but with the heat wave we had I threw some tarps on top of the netting of the run to make sure they have mostly shade.
I am having some small problems the main pulley Gertrude who’s one of the older comets and get buddy Agatha are kinda mean to the younger ones but I do have them separated by netting. But the little ones are petrified of the older hens even when they just want to be near them or eat with them. So I tried putting the nicest in with the 12 week olds in hopes that they will get use to her since she wants to be their friend? And they have lived side by side for over a month now but it’s not so much the hens corner the younger ones it’s simply the younger ones over react. I feel like that owl really did a number on them. But anyway thank you guys so much and I hope you like the photos!
