I come here to get all my answers from your forums and I finally have a question with my broody hen.

I had chickens growing up. Now that I have my own place I am converting a shed into a coop. Its just a building with a dog kennel on it now but I'm making walls and digging holes for a nice run. Slow going though with a baby.

I have two roosters. One is a pure black copper maran, Roosie, and is confined to the coop. Tucker is a maran mix. Tucker escaped the kill pen and has been free ranging ever since and he will stay that way until he attacks me. I have four Maran hens, three RIR hens and two Americana's and one guinea hen. And six keets being introduced now.

I want to get more chocolate egg layers, green/blue egg layers, and some heritage breeds. I'm designing my coop to be able to hold several flocks with two separate runs.

I would really like to try some Cayuga ducks. I love their eggs and plumage. Although I have only seen pictures.

I am a stay at home mom in Virginia and live on 15 acres. I also have three horses, one dairy cow, her steer calf, and three cats.

Thanks for reading! I'm off to ask about my broody hen in incubating and hatching.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! That's a lovely mixed flock you have there. Lots of other animals too that must keep you very busy. I have. A horse too, just the one. An ex racer called Harry, I've had him 12 years now. I've also had my first broody hen this year which was super. I've really enjoyed the experience of her hatching and raising them herself. I've always incubated and hatched with an incubator so the four she has raised has truly been a great experience.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to the flock

Glad that you joined the Backyard chickens flock. Sorry you have a bad rooster, so many people in the same boat. I'm surprised predators haven't gotten to him yet.
