Hello,

My name is Jessica & I've been browsing the forums a bit & decided that I should join since we just got our first batch of chicks this week! My grandfather raised chickens when I was real young & I love animals & enjoy the country life. Now that I've got 2 boys of my own I wanted them to experience raising chickens & learning how to care for them & where their food comes from. I don't have much memory of raising chickens besides photos & videos of me helping my grandfather. So we have done lots of research & finally got our first chickens! We have 6 Rhode Island Red pullets, they are 1 week old at the moment.

I'm looking forward to learning more as we go, as well as any helpful tips anyone has to share!
 
I do actually have 1 question already! I've noticed that a few of my chicks have been having diarrhea. It's loose, not formed & pretty smelly when they go. They don't seem to have pasty butt they are all clean. They are only eating their chick starter & do have fresh clean water at all times. Should I be concerned? They all appear to be doing fine & seem healthy, just wondering if this was normal?

Sometimes little chicks have messy poops and that is normal. Their little bodies are still getting into a routine of eating and drinking. Messy poops can be a sign of stress though so make sure they are warm, have food and water and aren't getting pecked on.
