I am very new to chicken raising, in fact I am still in the planning phase of my coop. I plan on raising about a dozen chickens, hoping to start building this week if the weather cooperates!

My chickens do just fine in the cold winter and it gets cold for sure !

My chickens hate the snow, as do I, but I think they handle it better than I do. The only time they will go outside when there is snow on the ground is when I open the front door so they can go out on the covered concrete. I did lose one this winter. My DH found her under the perch one morning. She must have died during night and fell off. It was very cold for a long period of time.
