Hi! We began raising chickens (for the second time in my life) when we bought a farm in Woodstock VA two years ago. We started with 13 - one rooster and 12 hens. A neighbor gave us two chicks that a duck had hatched and one turned out to be a rooster. The bigger older rooster (Biggs) gave the younger house raised one (Gandhi) a run for his money, and so this sprint we got 12 more hens and have two flocks. Gandhi (an Australorp)and one of our leg horns produced an egg, that a buff sat on and we had a little one added to the flock in the summer - born on my son's birthday. He and his wife are the main farmers - we enjoy the farm on the weekends. We love watching them!
