Hi Everyone, I am new member and happy to be here.

A little about me:
- I am still new to Chicken Life and am coming up on my one year anniversary on Labor Day. Yay!

- I have 6 hens. I have one Plymouth Barred Rock and she is Top Hen, a Golden Comet who is second in command, two Black SexLinks, one Easter Egger and one Oliver Egger.

- I love chickens because they lay eggs; they each have their own personalities; they are always happy to see us; they let us pet them. Bock bock. 🐓 They bring me joy.

- My other hobbies include being a mom to a 6 year old boy, yoga, meditation, walking.

- I live with my husband and son. We have two cats in addition to our chickens. I also work full time.

- I found BYC when googling for chicken help. I probably first came across BYC about 6 months ago. I finally joined because I need advice de worming the flock and overall I need a community of experienced chicken lovers to help me on this journey. 🙏🏼🐓

Welcome, You ment de worming your flock not re worming your flock. I add DE to their food at 2% by the weight to their food. No internal worm problems. Everybody does it different. This is my way.
Thank you for the response! I absolutely meant de worming and edited my post. I’ve been adding DE to the feed for a few weeks now. Found two worms in coop Tuesday morning. We lost a hen Monday morning; not sure why. I ordered the Safe Guard 10% suspension. I didn’t see worms yesterday or so far today. Looking for input on whether I should move forward with the Safe Guard as I’ve never officially dewormed before. Also wondering about the egg withdrawal period.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Sorry but DE in their food will do nothing to prevent or treat worms. The fenbendazole will. The egg withdrawal period for it is 2 weeks. But you have to do a repeat deworming 7-10 days after the initial dose.
Thank you so much for the response. Regarding the withdrawal period, does the 14 days begin after the first dose or second dose? I’ve seen different things online regarding the withdrawal... some seem strict about it and others say to just not sell them or give them away.

We are using the Safe Guard Dewormer for Goats 10% Suspension. Would you be able to advise on the best/easiest way to administer the meds?
