Hello! New Member here

I have to agree with @Jenbirdee about goslings being the cutest!

I adore my chickens and ducks, so I hope they never figure out that the geese may just be my favorites. American Buffs Gussie and Golly are beautiful birds with personality plus! Few things are more entertaining than watching them "herd" the runner ducks around the yard for no reason or suddenly burst into zoomies and race the full length of the driveway, again, for no reason.

I handled them from the day I brought them home, and they are completely non-aggressive toward people -- unless someone (me!) is trying to remove their eggs. That action gets met with plenty of hissing.

Raised identically, the girls have different personalities. I can still pick up Gussie, and she will sweetly put her head on my shoulder and let me move her. Golly is more of a heck-no kind of girl, and carrying her usually means deflecting a wing before it hits me in the face -- again.

Although they will happily boot all of the ducks out of the baby pool, one determined chicken can send my big bullies across the yard in a flash.

A word of warning: Geese, like toddlers, will explore the world by putting EVERYTHING in their mouth. I have to wrestle inedibles away from them all the time, and that would include pieces of glass, chunks of plastic (where do they find these things?), large sticks and my all-time favorite -- one of my rubber cleaning gloves. One of the girls thought it would be fun to lead me on a merry chase around the yard to retrieve it.

Best wishes with all your poultry, and please keep us posted. Welcome to BYC!

Hi! I live in rural Illinois on a little hobby family farm that my dad built. I've had chickens and ducks all my life, but I just recently got a new batch of ducklings after years of not raising them. I got call ducklings, welsh harlequins, and a Cayuga. I have Toulouse geese, Splash Marans, and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes coming at the end of this month. Then I have some Frizzle Easter Eggers headed in August. The call ducks are new to me, but man, I already know they're my new favorite breed by their personalities. I'm super excited to see what the goslings are like!! Any advice on raising geese is welcome!! Thanks for reading :)
