Hello everyone!

I am definitely new to chicken owning, I worked on a farm for a few years but we only had sheep and horses. The first chicken I got was... about a month ago- I only have one (her) due to the fact that she was actually a chicken that was a KFC chicken that somehow never made it on the truck to the slaughterhouse. The owners gave her to my sister who (being a vegetarian) brought her home to us. I think she's like a white star chicken--- but i'm not entirely sure. She's settling slowly into her new home. I'm surprised at how much chickens follow you around the yard.

Ohh Bless, she must be so lonely. She is hanging onto you for company.

Reading your post I think maybe others here will be able to advise you better than I, but if she is a meat bird, yuou may have some issues with her, but I hope all works out well.

Get her some company soon, and good luck and welcome.

awe yeah, she looks pretty lonely most of the time. We try to spend lots of time with her/are thinking of getting another chicken to keep her company.

...and she seems to have developed a large lump on her chest... i've posted something in inquiries etc. Not really sure what it is.

Don't worry that will be her crop. It is where they store food. It should go down overnight and then reappear again when she is eating. They start the digestion process in their crop, that is why we give them grit in their feed to help them to break down the food.

It does look a bit scary until you know what it is, and yes get her some friends. She will be happy and you will enjoy the eggs.

It is very nice of you to take such good care of her! She is 1 lucky chicken. I agree you should get her a friend. Keeping 2 or 3 chickens isn't a whole lot different from keeping 1. Welcome to BYC!!
