Hello. New small flock owner

The first thing that will happen is the cockerel's combs and wattles will enlarge and redden--you wouldn't happen to have picture of the his/her head? Judging by the tail feathers though, I think I would agree with you. . a cockerel's tail feathers and hackle feathers tend to be pointy and shiny. I'm not super great with determining gender though--curious of what everybody else thinks!

and have tons of fun!!
Thanks. I can snap some pics later today and post them. The comb is a little larger, but my 3 EE combs all look similar. Hope they aren't all roos...lol

I was debating the wire under the run too. Our chicken door also locks down tight, but from what I read others have done, we decided it wise to do the wire too in the run. hmmmm, be curious now what others say about it. Like you said they are inside at night.

I am interested in knowing about the coop you bought. I was looking at kits recently and thought the prices were outrageous! And those that supposedly held 6 chicks were not nearly big enough for what they claimed. So I've decided to build my own with scrap I am gathering from friends and family. Because I like to make things complicated and love projects. lol

I too love projects. I can't wait to get out there and work on the coop, but it has been a rainy mess for 4 days...

I bought it from Triple Braided Farms. You can Google them. They have a FaceBook page with lots of pics. I myself am not a Facebooker, but the pics gave me some good ideas.

The coop is suppose to hold 10 birds comfortably. I will have to take some pics of the inside. I paid about $900 with the run, delivered. But it was discounted a little because it was a cancelled order. I think it is normally priced around $1000.

But...it has extras like a dutch door, the real side window with glass and screen, a window box for flowers. Inside there are ( if I remember correctly) 6 nesting boxes built in. It also has a stair like style perch for the girls. It was a bit of money, but for what my husband and father in law would have spent building one (no scraps here) I think it was worth it. These shed and barn places want twice that for a smaller unit.

Hi all. Thanks for the replies.

I went out and snapped some pics.
Here is Rickie (my daughter named it) the possible rooster..

Thanks for the replies all, but the mystery is solved. Rickie crowed yesterday, so I'd say that's that.
