(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? So I am not entirely new to chickens. I raised my first flock when I was in high school. I was fell in love but between moving and going to college, I haven’t been able to really start another flock until now. My husband surprised me with six Plymouth Rock chicks and I surprised him with three silkies hah.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
So we started with 6 chicks and unfortunately one passed. Due to upper respiratory complications. I got two more silkies and the farmer provided me with an extra and three Orpington. 11! Chicks!!! They are all pullets now and are getting ready to be moved to their permanent home. My husband also surprised me with two peachicks ( my favorite fowl)

What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love their personalities, raising them and getting free eggs.

What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, which I’ve heard is hard with chickens. I also love reading.

How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I found BYC through google searches. I had tons of questions when my first chick became ill. I never dealt with any illness and I’ve always had a healthy flock. But since this was new to me, I went crazy researching and reaching out to Facebook group communities for help. Then I came upon this page and I read a lot on URI. I decided to join to stay in the loop. I also wanted to know more about raising peafowl. I was curious to see if I had a hen or a peacock. So that was helpful and fun.
