Yes, this is the place to be when you own poultry! We are just bursting at the seams with knowledge! So sorry about the dog attack. I will never trust my dog around my birds, even though I think he may be trained to leave them alone.

I'm a dog lover but, I would never trust them loose around chickens. I have heard many times of dogs wiping out entire flocks but, I've never heard of chickens killing any dogs. In confrontation the chick or chicken looses. It really doesn't matter if the dog was just playing or serious - the end result is still bad for the chicken.
 
I agree with drumstick diva. Don't trust the dog. My dog is trained and listens to me to stay away from them when I'm outside with him. The dog didn't just attack my chicken. I think he just got carried away because of the excitement and couldn't help it. I thought my dog was trained as well but underestimated the consequences of leaving him alone wit them.
