Hello! My name is Kelsey and we've started our backyard ventures earlier is year! Even when I was researching breeds, this forum just kept popping up with the answers I needed lol
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've been around family owning chickens since I was born, but first time owning them! We got the chickens about 3 months ago and our rabbits between 1 and 2 months ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
7!
(3) What breeds do you have?
1 Lavender (self-blue) orpington (which I wanted but couldn't find more of that were already laying age), 2 White Phoenix and 1 Golden Phoenix (surprisingly good layers!), and 3 Rhode Island Red
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Funny chicken antics, fun occupation while being a mostly stay at home mom - great practice for when we can finally buy a few acres in the future, too!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I got rabbits, too!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband is a plumber. I'm a substitute teacher (with no work right now, thank you CoVid19). We have one child turning 1 year old. We've got a large cat, a dachshund, a puppy great pyrenees, chickens and rabbits!
Also, my husband and I met in the National Guard where he was a mechanic and I was a medic.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I kind of answered this one already! It's been a great resource over the last few months!
