Hello! Newb owner trying to do right by my Laying Ladies...

Is Turkey lurky a tom? and your only turkey? I ask because someone I know on BYC saw her tom turkey kill a chicken hen attempting to breed her.

Yes we have one Turkey. He has not bothered with the hens. Very protective of the yard. He's going to be on our plates soon, tho. Between chasing our 5 year old son around, intimidating my clients (kennel) and eyeing up the new chicks we're prepping to integrate, I'm done. Lol!

Those are Red Sex Links. They are produced by crossing a red rooster (RIR, NHR, or Production Red) with a white/silver hen (RIW, WR, Delaware, or Light Sussex), and the chicks can be sexed by color at hatching (males are whitish, females are reddish). Red Sex Links are marketed by various hatcheries under a lot of different names (Red Star, Brown Sex Link, Gold Sex Link, Cinnamon Queen, Bovans Brown, Golden Buff, Golden Comet, Hubbard Golden Comet, Isa Brown, Babcock Brown, Shaver Brown, Warrens, Bovans Goldline, etc.) but they are all egg laying machines. There is also a Black Sex Link (Black Star) which is RIR roo x BR hen (male chicks are black with a white spot on top of the head, female chicks are solid black) and like the Red Sex Links, they are also egg laying machines. You have a great bunch of layers there. Good luck with your flock.
