Hello! I am new to chickens. Our plan is to have our coop built by the end of March and we will have chicks by April. I am learning a lot and asking friends with chickens many questions. I would like to have 4 chickens for our backyard. I don't know much about the different breeds, but I would like a mixed flock. I found BackYardChickens.com by asking google many questions and always coming here! Thanks BYC! My other hobbies include gardening, painting, baking, crafting, and anything else I find interesting. I live in Oregon with my husband, two dogs, and one cat. I hope the dogs and cat will accept the chickens. The husband will have to accept the chickens ;) I am looking forward to learning lots and raising some chickens. Thanks!!

Hello and welcome to BYC

I wish you the best of luck with your chicken project. There are threads on baking, gardening and some crafty stuff, so please make yourself at home.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
