Greetings to everyone at BCY. I have greatly enjoyed your website and learn a lot from you guys. I am the proud mamma of 5 delawares= Mr. Rooster and the Girls (4 hens).

I had 5 hens but one escaped the coop and was over taken by a predator. Prior to the loss of one of the girls, all hens, except the one we lost were laying around and egg a day. Now they seem to be only one hen laying. We had to reinforce the coop to prevent, what we think is a rat from taking the eggs. We have found egg shells outside the pen, but since the reinforcement think we have foiled the egg thief. Could the hens no be laying due to stress over the loss of their group??

Need some insight.

With deep appreciation

Welcome to BYC. Stress comes in many forms with chickens and can cause them to slow or stop laying altogether for a period of time. Predators and loss of another bird that they were used to in the pecking order is definitely stressful, slowed or stopped egg production can be expected for awhile.
