Hello everyone! I’ve read so many posts on here over the years but never officially joined - better late than never!
I’ve had chickens as pets for the last 10 years- various kinds and have learned a lot along the way- including about fox proof housing in the early days - clever fox!
We currently have 7 girls (lost some older ones over past few months) and currently 5 chicks. Plus some eggs under a broody I haven’t yet confessed to my husband
We have had a range of breeds but have moved towards the bigger ones due to their chilled nature and the fact they don’t fly over the fence and ‘weed’ the village gardens. So we have, from eldest to youngest- PekinXhybrid, 2x Goldtops, a Buff Orpington, 3 Cochins (Buff and 2white), and .. chicks: a 5 week male Cochin and various 1 week Brahmas. Eggs are Brahma too (large fowl).
Love the girls’ conversation and their unique personalities. Dislike the lack of any sort of garden but hey..
I work as a lecturer and consultant on animal behaviour so we have a range of critters: stick insects, cats, dogs..
finally realised I could join the community when I saw the app rather than the webpage. Found fab advice about using incubator for first time (once it was going horribly wrong but I’ll know all about humidity hell and the ways to improve on the provided instructions for next time.)
thanks for all the great posts.
