(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Ducks ducks ducks! My friend has chickens and I finally convinced her to get ducks and it happened to work out that I'll be moving into a home where I can keep ducks, so two of them are mine!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Oh man. We got 15 ducks total and added 10 chickens to the flock of 15 I think.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Go read my post under the duck forum and help me find out! We have Americano, Bantams, and Reds for the chickens though. The reds are my favorite since they're the friendliest and come running when I call them for treats.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Big pet birds! I love birds, but the size of indoor birds never did it for me. Moving to Kansas has allowed me to really explore raising chickens and now ducks and it has just been such a blast to learn their personalities. Also, they're adorable and the eggs don't hurt. Who doesn't want blue eggs for breakfast?
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am studying to become a recreational and animal therapist in Kansas. I run a tiny sticker shop on Etsy since I draw almost 24/7. I also do some carpentry work! I am building the duck coop that will be in our new yard once we buy the house. I built a planter to grow a little fresh food garden for the ducks to get treats from too.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 2 beautiful dogs and one obnoxious cat!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've known about the site for a few years, but I didn't need an account until now. Yay ducks!
