That’s great news. Best of luck with your chicken adventures!Just as follow up. It appears that as of March 15, the restrictions on obtaining permits for chickens here in Gatineau Quebec has been loosened. I submitted my application. Judging from ss. 50.1 to 50.5 of the bylaw (below) concerning farm animals, (and my French is not the greatest, so I could be wrong) the acreage requirement is waived if the owner applies for and is granted a licence. If accepted, I am allowed three hens, no roosters and have to sign a commitment to keep my birds healthy and safe and keep their environment sanitary relatively odour-free. Failure to honour that commitment will lead to seizure of the animals. The coop must provide approximately 4ft2 for each bird in the coop and 10ft2 for each bird in the run. That doesn't seem like a lot of space for them.
I'm excited about this and my neighbour is too. She may apply herself for a permit. At the very least, I've got someone to care for them during the rare times that I'm away.
I'm trying not to jump the gun by starting to build the coop and ordering some pullets. I hope that a 4x4 coop and 8x8 run with free ranging while I'm home is fair to the birds.
PS: Has anyone had experience purchasing birds from Poules-en-folie? They seem to have tonnes of variety and they're relatively local.
