Hi! My mom and I have recently started raising chicks since the beginning of the year. We had gotten some from her friend but couldn't raise them yet since we were living in a gated community that didn't allow them. So we moved to the country and are proud to say we are chicken mommies! We have some Rhodes Island Reds, Cornish Hens/Roosters, some specialty breeds, and a few others (also a few ducks). We have many pictures as well if you'd like to see! We have hatched our own chicks by letting the hens sit on them. As I'm typing this actually, a new born chick (08/16/2016) is laying on my chest pecking the screen in the middle of the night because I allowed her to come in cause I felt bad that she was chirping and cold (her fault for flying out of her comfy box for an unknown reason).

So I think that's it! :) Nice to meet you! I'm welcome to answer any questions you may have!

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us and congrats to you and mum on your new flock. We always like to see pics, so feel free to post away. If you are ever unsure about the gender or breed, you can post in this link - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=learning+centre and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best

Next time cover the comfy box with wire, so she stays put. Otherwise she will be pestering you endlessly. Of course some folks love to have house pet chickens. There is a thread "people with house chickens." The movement is growing.

Ok thank you! Sadly she passed away 2 days ago from Pasty Butt, it happened so suddenly. She was a very cute Plymouth Rock chick. I'll upload pictures of her soon!
