Hi from rural Los Angeles, California town. We read that Trader Joe's stores sell fertile eggs that we can incubate to raise our own chickens. Buying chicks cost about $4 or $6 each so, that's not affordable. We do not intend to eat our chickens but only their eggs. Who has experience and incubating this way from Trader Joe's or other nationally available fertile eggs in Southern California ? Besides buying an incubator, how do we do it? Thank you.

Welcome to BYC! :welcome
You either have to have a broody hen or incubator to hatch eggs. Have you looked at cost of feed? It’s way more than the cost of chicks.
Yes we used to have laying hens, adopted from area animal shelter. We can afford the feed price, bc this is also a animal living hobby. Thanks. What is best feed type and brands?
