Lori and I went temporarily insane after the Tulip Festival down in Woodburn (OR), stopped at the Wilco on the way home, came back with a pair of chicks ( RI Reds, Thelma & Louise), a bag of feed, pine bedding and an infrared bulb ($20 and counting). After a month in a cardboard box, then an old dog crate, now evicted to the back porch (with a hardware cloth run, $20+10=30) everyone is doing fine. Even the dog (Yellow Lab, Hannah) has become protective, if not entirely thrilled, with the idea...
Would love to post a picture of the girls but the attachments button sez, oops,.. never mind, there they are
(image button, right?)
Evil looking critters aren't they?
So, are Cedar chips really a no-no or what? Pine? We've heard and read different things....
Grass clippings and fennel stalks seem to be working out. Expect I'll just pick up a bail of hay.
Thanks for having us, Later,
Rod & Lori
