Hello, We are new to the online group, but have had the magazine for years. We're in NE Ohio and have had chickens as 4-H projects for 7 years. Now I'm hooked and have my own flock, and 155 three and four week old chicks out in a shed, raising them for selling as young layers in spring and expanding our flock to have 6 breeder flocks, and more layers for selling a few more eggs. When our 10 year old got interested in having chickens of her own, I went crazy! They are such neat animals. Yesterday, her Light Brahmas started hatching, first ones at 19.5 days incubation!!! A record. We were super careful to note the accurate day and time of setting them in the incubator, her first hatch. Earlier today on day 21 (exactly 21 will be 8:30 pm tonight), four more hatched at 20.5 days, 2 pipped, and another that pipped yesterday died today. I opened it up, don't always do that - too sad, but the one foot was caught for weeks in the umbilical cord and grew horribly disfigured and caused it's hatching death. The yolk sac could not be drawn into the belly and it didn't have hatching mobility either.

We're glad to be a part of a great online chicken group. Thanks for being here.
