Hello Fellow Chicken/ Poultry People!
I've been a lurking on this site since 1st getting into backyard poultry 6ish years ago. Back then I was placating my lifelong bird obsession by sneaking a few ducks and chickens in our suburban backyard. Then about a year ago my family moved away from suburbia to some acres in the country which of course meant more birds for me!! Besides the eggs in the incubator, chicks in my bathroom and grow out pens, and meat birds
I've got 30ish chickens mainly light brahmas, silkies and easter eggers, 8 pekin and 1 ancona ducks, 4 heritage turkeys and 2 geese.(These numbers are subject to change at any time lol)
Raising backyard birds gives me so much peace of mind. 1st because I love knowing if I need to I can go outside almost anytime and my birds will fill my families bellies. And 2nd because I love me a good chicken wing... knowing that the birds on our table had an excellent life especially compared to those we would have bought at the grocery store is a good feeling.
Now I'm diving into breeding my birds and want to get my hand on as much information as possible, which is why I'm saying hello to all you lovely people!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
(3) What breeds do you have?
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome
community?
