I just got into raising Coturnix Quail in January and I and my wife are now addicted to these incredible birds. We have had 2 successful hatches sofar and have 22 of our own first eggs in the incubator to see what will happen. When my wife and I get into a website to order hatching eggs we ask each other which ones we do NOT want and laugh because we want every one that we see. We currently have 48 birds and are working to build up our breeding stock as quick as we can. I am hoping to learn from other members here and hopefully be able to help others that are getting started as well.

The nice thing about them is the short cycles for hatches, after 14 days they go into lockdown and they reach maturity relatively quickly. I just could not find anyone to buy the eggs or meat so i quit raising them. otherwise they were a joy to have...
I recently found someone in my area that used to raise Quail that is planning to get back into it. We have been talking about possibly trying to sell pickled eggs in the future but for now, they will all be for self sufficiency.

After I stopped raising them, about six months later I found out that my neighbor across the road loves pickled eggs. I ended up getting him some to raise for eggs. You have Coturnix right?
Yes. Right now we have Jumbo Whites and Jumbo Wilds. From our latest batch of eggs that we hatched we ended up with 2 birds that we are over joyed with. We ended up getting a Grau Fee Tuxedo chick and a Silver. Once we have our breeding stock built up and all of our hens are laying, I'm thinking about possibly trying to sell at our Farmers Market.
